Club Philosophy

The West Geauga Soccer Club was formed to promote soccer among the youth of the West Geauga School District by providing organized teams to participate in travel league soccer. The Club and its coaches shall promote and adhere to the following principles with its youth participants:

  • Sportsmanship
  • Competitiveness
  • Pride
  • Teamwork
  • Leadership

The goals of the Club shall be to develop soccer skills, which will permit each player to advance to soccer leagues, including inter-scholastic competition, where they can utilize those skills.  The Club shall further attempt to foster in the participants a love for soccer that will keep them participating in the sport into adulthood.

Each team shall strive to be the best team that it can be.  Winning shall be an appropriate goal, but winning shall not be at the expense of the other goals set forth in this Mission Statement.  Soccer in the West Geauga Soccer Club should be fun.

Code of Ethics and Conduct

The West Geauga Soccer Club Trustees support the National Soccer Coaches of America “Code of Ethics and Conduct”, which states:

“Soccer is a sport which belongs to the players. It is a game which offers physical challenges, emotional satisfaction, lifelong values and experiences for those who play. Sportsmanship and ethical values highlighting RESPECT, FAIRNESS, CIVILITY, HONESTY, INTEGRITY and ACCOUNTABILITY, are a foundation for the sport.”

Club structure

The West Geauga Soccer Club offers a competitive youth travel soccer program for boys and girls from ages U9 to U14. WGSC is affiliated with US Youth Soccer through Ohio Youth Soccer Association – North. Our boy’s teams are members of the Ohio Amateur Soccer League and our girl’s teams are members of North Ohio Girls Soccer League.

Our soccer year has a fall season (from early September to early November) and, after a winter recess, a spring season (early April to early June). Teams play eight games each season. WGSC teams compete against neighboring community travel teams. Additionally, most teams elect to participate in tournaments and indoor games throughout the year.

Teams are selected during tryouts in late May.
