Did you know? 10 Facts about WGSC

1)  Every WG High School boys and girls varsity coach for the past 30 years has worked with or directly for the West Geauga Soccer Club. 

2) The vast majority of WGHS boys and girls varsity soccer players played travel soccer with WGSC.

3) WGHS Girls Varsity Head Coach and local soccer legend Kori Jesonovic (Chapic)  played for the WGSC and coached for the WGSC before becoming the varsity coach.  She is still an advisor to our program.

4) WGHS Boys Varsity Head Coach Danny Cappelucci also played for the WGSC and coached for the WGSC before becoming the varsity coach.   Danny still coaches with us in the winter and spring. 

5)  Both Danny and Kori went on to be captains of their WG high school teams.   DOS Bill Bryan coached both Kori and Danny when they were in high school.  He is now a varsity assistant, working with both coaches and both varsity programs.

6)  Varisty assistant soccer coaches Sarah Neale, Matt Martin, and Brian Murphy are all currently coaching WGSC travel teams.  Former Varsity head coach Denny Currutt is also currently coaching WGSC travel teams.

7)  Danny, Sarah, Matt, and Denny are all board members of the WGSC.  DOS Bill Bryan is an ex officio WGSC board member.

8) A dozen or so WGHS varsity players are continuing a long-standing tradition of working with our youngest soccer players by volunteering at our Kid Kicker clinics and goalkeeper clinics.

9) WGSC players regularly act as ball boys and girls for WGHS soccer games.

10) WGSC donated $5,000 to the WGHS turf field construction costs.  WGSC also donates to the upkeep of the West Geauga Commons, Mayfield Church Field,  and Clay Eddy fields.

Bonus) WGSC is a member of the Ohio Travel Soccer League, a league comprised of over 80 communities and nearly 900 teams in Northern Ohio and a proud member of US Club Soccer.  We typically play soccer against east side communities, including Mayfield, Kenston, Mentor, Chagrin Falls, Eastlake, Willoughby, Twinsburg, Hudson, Riverside, Geneva, Shaker Hts., and S. Euclid/Lyndhurst.
